Defending Champs Los Angeles Lakers Defeat Phoenix Suns
Going from not even qualifying for the playoffs to facing the defending champs in the Western Conference Finals, many hoped for a cinderella story. After defeating the San Antonio Spurs many thought the Suns new improved defense, along with their already spectacular scoring ability would help them to get over the Lakers. Unfortunately that was not the case, especially with arguably the best player in the world on the Lakers. Kobe Bryant went off in Game 1 scoring 40pts, and giving the Lakers the 128-107 win over the Suns. His great game quieted all spectators who believed his knee injury would hinder his performance. Lakers also took Game 2 124-112, causing many to think maybe they were overzealous in their estimation of the Suns. The Suns clearly needed a big game from Amare Stoudemire, which he provided in Game 3 with 42pts and 11rebs, giving them the 118-109 win over the Lakers. Suns also took Game 4 115-106 despite 38pts & 10 asts from Kobe Bryant. They tied the series up 2-2 as they headed back to the Staples Center where the Lakers remained dominant. Lakers took Game 5 103-101 after a bank shot at the buzzer from surprisingly Ron Artest after a missed 3 from Bryant. Game 6 the Lakers ended all the Suns hopes with a 111-103 win behind 37pts from Kobe Bryant.
